Dr. Phil McGraw is getting another major interview.
In mid-September, McGraw questioned Burke Ramsey — the brother of JonBenét — for the first time since the little girl’s brutal murder in 1996, and now the good doctor will be grilling Making a Murderer subject Steven Avery and his new fiancée, Lynn Hartman.
This will be Hartman’s first sit-down interview, and she’s reportedly going to describe how she found love with one of America’s most notorious convicted killers. Avery will be calling in from the Waupun Correctional Institute in Wisconsin, where he’s currently serving a life sentence (without the possibility of parole) for the 2005 murder of Teresa Halbach and illegally possessing a firearm.

Avery and Hartman will discuss everything from their pending nuptials to his hope that he’ll be portrayed by Brad Pitt when Hollywood makes a film about his story.
“I haven’t been in love my whole life,” says Avery of his fiancée. “It’s not the same as the others. Everything is all different with her.”
Given that Avery’s nephew, Brendan Dassey, recently had his conviction overturned, Avery believes he’ll likewise be freed.
“The truth is coming out and sooner or later all the truth will come out,” Avery says to Dr. Phil, saying they’ll get married upon his release from prison. “I want to wait until I’m out and I don’t think that’ll be too long,” says Avery, adding he believes his freedom is “right around the corner.”
The two-part interview will air on The Dr. Phil Show on Monday, Oct. 3 and Tuesday, Oct. 4. Here’s the preview:
Avery, 54, found love with Las Vegas legal secretary Lynn Hartman, 53, after the two exchanged letters, then daily phone calls, over the last eight months.
Netflix’s Making a Murderer is a 10-part documentary series that follows the case of the Wisconsin native, who had previously been jailed for 18 years for a sexual assault in 1985, and was exonerated in that case by DNA evidence in 2003.

Two years later, Avery brought a US$36-million lawsuit against Manitowoc County, Wis., for the wrongful conviction. Making a Murderer calls into question the investigation and trial that put Avery and his nephew, Dassey, behind bars, and alleges the investigators and police in the case planted evidence and otherwise manipulated the outcome of the trial.

“I’m happy,” Avery told the DailyMail.com. “She treats me decent, she loves me – she’s kind of spoiling me right now. I just want to be happy and enjoy my life. I think I did enough time.”
Curtis Basse, who runs the Steven Avery Project page on Facebook, wrote a message to fans on Sept. 23 to clarify Hartman’s intentions after some people speculated she was after fame instead of true “love.”

Avery has been engaged twice before and married once. His ex-wife Lori (who was interviewed in Making a Murderer) is the mother of his four children. The pair divorced in 1998.

“Steven deserves every bit of happiness that comes his way,” Avery’s lawyer Kathleen Zellner told People magazine. “He is very much in love and happy with Lynn so we are happy for them.”
