In a presidential debate, even the smallest detail matters. In the case of Monday night’s show-down between Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton, it was Trump’s nose that drew unwanted attention.
It started early and continued all the way through, with Trump occasionally sniffling mid-sentence as he discussed everything from ISIS to tax returns.
Predictably, Twitter took notice.
The sniffing drew comparisons to Al Gore’s sighing during his 2000 debate against George W. Bush.
By the end of the debate, a Twitter account devoted to ‘the sniff’ had been born and was being followed by over 2,000 people.
Some of Trump’s vocabulary, between sniffles, also drew online mockery. The words “big league” came out sounding like “bigly” at one point, and then there was “braggadocious” – which yes, is a real word.
