Traffic delays expected as royal visit comes to Kelowna

Tuesday is the day Okanagan royal watchers have been waiting for the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are expected to visit Kelowna.

However, that means large crowds are expected to converge at UBC Okanagan to try to catch a glimpse of the royal couple.

Officials are advising the public to take transit or carpool if they plan on going to the university campus. There will be no public parking on campus as spots will be reserved for staff and students.

Limited pay parking will be available north of campus on Innovation Drive but it is also expected to fill up fast.

“There will be delays. There will be a lot of traffic in the area so give yourself the extra time if you are passing through the area,” said Nick Bonnet, outdoor events coordinator with the City of Kelowna.

Royal Visit Day 3: The Duke and Duchess to visit Bella Bella B.C.

The speed limit on Highway 97 will be dropped to 60 km/hr from Edwards Road to Airport Way. Also, John Hindle Drive will be closed from 11:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

The royal couple is expected to be on campus starting at 12:35 p.m.
