Police video captured the moment when a group of complete strangers helped rescue a man trapped in a truck pinned under a school bus.

The red pick-up-truck and the yellow bus collided on Tuesday in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

“The driver’s compartment was crushed up pretty bad and the truck was on fire right in the middle of the hood,” Leonard Rogers, who helped rescue the man, told CBS.

Rogers and his two co-workers were on their way to work when they saw the horrific scene.

“First reaction was, get the guy out or get the fire put out. We tried to put the flame out. It died out but it flamed right back up,” Rogers said.

“We knocked a couple of the windows out of the truck so the air would circulate where he could breathe.”

Along with six  police officers, they tried to remove the truck from underneath the bus.

Rogers used his truck to pull the truck out. “We took a chain that we got on the back of the truck, hooked it to the front of this truck and pulled that truck back.”

Once it was free, the group grabbed a crowbar to try to pry open the crushed door before firefighters arrived on scene.

Firefighters put out the flames and removed the shaken driver from the truck.

“I hope the guy’s OK and I’m glad that we were able to be there to assist and give him a hand,” Rogers said.

The unidentified man in the truck was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Winston-Salem Police sent a statement thanking Rogers for his “willingness to assist in a potentially life-threatening situation.”
