Expect delays in the coming months if you plan on making your way downtown as Transports Quebec begins the dismantling of the Ville-Marie Expressway.
Starting in November, the entire eastbound direction of HIghway 720 will be closed and re-routed to the newly constructed Route 136.
Transports Quebec breaks down the construction into three timelines:
Mid-October 2016 until 2018
- The off-ramp from Highway 20 east to the 720 will be reduced from two lanes down to one.
This closure is necessary to calm traffic before being redirected to Route 136.
November 2016 until 2018
- Closure of Highway 720 in the eastern direction between the Turcot Interchange and Exit 3 (Guy Street).
Traffic on the four lanes will be redirected to two of the lanes on Route 136 and temporary roads between the Turcot Interchange and Exit 3 (Guy Street).
Mid-November 2016 – for 12 to 15 weekends
- Complete closure of the new Route 136 in the eastern direction between the Turcot Interchange and the highway entrance at De la Cathédrale and Notre-Dame west.
This closure is necessary to safely dismantle the Ville-Marie Expressway in the eastern direction. Transports Quebec warns that other closures are possible on municipal streets during the dismantling process to ensure public safety.
