A Saskatchewan man has built a wild-west-style saloon on his
farm in Killaly, north of Grenfell. It comes complete with tables, drinks and a
whole lot of cowboy paraphernalia.

“It’s the Horseshoe Saloon,” says Ron Exner, the owner. He
built the place from scratch with a friend. It took them a year and a half to
finish.  He was inspired by old western
TV shows.

“When I was a kid I used to watch Gunsmoke,” he says.

Exner wanted his own saloon since he was 16 years old.

Inside, he has items from all over. From Minot
to Montana,
he’s travelled around, searching for pieces of cowboy history to bring his home
on the range.

“It’s something out of the ordinary and it’s out in the
middle of nowhere,” says Exner’s friend Rick Tholl, who helped build it. He says
that it’s a reminder of times past. “It’s not that far back that this place was
the [wild] west.”

Exner’s currently building a sheriff’s office, general store
and jail to go along with his saloon. He says the place has become more than
just a wild-west imitation.

“I’ve met so many people, I’ve made so many friends that I
would’ve never met before,” he says. “That’s the best part of this place.”
