Calgary cab fares increase

New more expensive taxi rates are now in place in Calgary.

Cab fares have increased by 4.4%, and drivers now have the right to demand at $30 deposit at the start of the trip to ensure payment will be received.

In addition, there is now a surcharge for vans with seating capacity of six or more, when they’re used to transport cargo. The surcharge isn’t applied when a van is transporting passengers without cargo.

The City of Calgary says all taxis will undergo mandatory testing between October 9th and 26th to ensure fare meters are properly calibrated for the rate increase.
