WINNIPEG — Winnipeggers who haven’t left town during Labour Day weekend are in for a rainy one.
Environment Canada is projecting 40 to 60 mm of rain to fall in the city of Winnipeg from Sunday into Monday morning. Rain is expected to taper off Monday morning as the cold front moves east to Ontario.
Sunday will be a brisk one, reaching a high of 18 C, with an overnight low of 12 C. The forecast also calls for a risk of thunderstorms in the evening and after midnight. Rainfall totals recorded from midnight to 3 p.m. on Sunday at Winnipeg Airport was 14 mm.
Rainfall warnings were also issued for several areas in southern Manitoba, including Winkler/Morden, the R.M. of Stanley, Steinbach, Niverville, Grunthal and the R.M. of Hanover.

The rain has already caused cancellations for outdoor activities, as the Winnipeg Goldeyes have cancelled Sunday’s game. The team will instead play a doubleheader on Monday afternoon.
