Early Thursday morning, there were reports of an explosion at SpaceX‘s launch site at Cape Canaveral, Florida. Though there are no reports of any injuries, it is one of a few setbacks the private space venture has experienced in its history.
Here are some of SpaceX’s milestones — and misfortunes — over its short life.
1. SpaceX is founded in 2002 by Elon Musk. Originally based in El Segundo, California, it eventually moves to Hawthorne, California.
2. On June 4, 2010, after numerous setbacks, the company makes its inaugural test flight from Cape Canaveral, Florida.
3. In December 2010, it sends its first Dragon capsule into orbit. It safely returns, splashing down in the Pacific Ocean.
4. In May 2012, Dragon makes its first trip to the International Space Station.
5. In October 2012, it makes its first resupply mission to the ISS, bringing 1,000 lbs of food and cargo to the astronauts on board.
6. In March 2013, it completes the first 24-storey test flight of a newly developed rocket, the Grasshopper. Meant to be a prototype for a reusable rocket into space, it safely returns to Earth, landing upright.

7. In September 2014, NASA announces that SpaceX and Boeing will be the two companies developing spacecraft to send astronauts to the ISS. SpaceX’s crew capsule is called the Dragon V2.

8. In January 2015, SpaceX makes its first attempt to land its Falcon 9 rocket back on Earth on a floating barge. It crashes and burns, or, as Musk likes to say, it experienced a RUD — a rapid unscheduled disassembly.
9. In June 2015, a Falcon9 rocket explodes during takeoff.
