It’s butter tarts galore in Lumby this weekend as the second annual butter tart festival drew locals and tourists to get a taste of some of the sweets.
Organizers said the popularity of the festival has skyrocketed and so much so, that this year, vendors ran out of the butter tarts much earlier than expected.
“They ran out early in the day… [It] must be a sign of success, but we hope to avoid at the third annual festival in 2017,” Donna Easto with the Lumby Public Market said.
The one-day festival, hosted by the public market, encompasses a battle for the best butter tart.
There are several categories that tart bakers can enter including the homemade traditional, non traditional and commercial divisions.
