2 men charged after Toronto senior allegedly defrauded of $19K

Police have arrested two men after they allegedly obtained $19,000 in cash and cheques from a Toronto senior.

A woman in her 80s, who lives in the Victoria Park Avenue and St. Clair Avenue East area, was approached by two men during the day while she was alone.

The men convinced her they finished performing work on the outside of her home, according to Toronto police.

The men allegedly demanded money for the work. Police said the men continued to visit and call the woman asking to be paid for work that wasn’t completed.

Police said the men got $19,000 in cash payments and stolen cheques from the woman’s house.

Investigators are concerned there may be additional victims.

Kevin Sampson, 40, of Toronto has been charged with four counts of fraud under $5,000, extortion, three counts of possession of property obtained by crime, three counts of theft under $5,000 and conspiracy to commit an indictable offence.

Mark Kalka, 39, of no fixed address, is charged with fraud under $5,000 and conspiracy to commit an indictable offence.
