During an interview with late night host Stephen Colbert Thursday night, U.S. Democratic Vice Presidential candidate Tim Kaine shifted not just topic, but languages to launch an attack on Republican nominee Donald Trump.
Appearing on Late Night with Stephen Colbert, the Virginia Senator had some harsh words when asked about Trump’s recent pivot on immigration – not all of them in English.
“I don’t buy it,” he said before switching to Spanish mid-sentence. “He’s always fighting against the Latin community with words of ill will and the actions of an idiot.”
In response to Kaine’s attack, Colbert jokingly asked “What is the Spanish word for pander?”

Polls often show large majorities support letting immigrants to the United States illegally stay in the country. But they also show support for tough measures that could lead to those immigrants’ deportation.
Majorities in Republican primary states told pollsters they backed letting immigrants stay but also voted for Trump.
Now Trump is trying to soften his hard-line program. Advocates of a more lenient immigration approach say that proves the hard-line position is politically untenable. Those who want to limit immigration argue that it mainly reflects Trump’s erratic nature.
The VP hopeful was also asked by Colbert about Trump’s recent assertion that Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton was a “bigot.”
“When Hillary Clinton got out of law school, she was working to help advance racial justice and the juvenile justice system in South Carolina and fight school segregation in Alabama,” Kaine replied. “And I about that time got out of law school and was battling housing discrimination in the South and in Virginia.”
“At his early career, Donald Trump was a real estate guy who got sued by the Justice Department for discriminating against people in housing.”
Late Night with Stephen Colbert airs weeknights at 11:35 on Global.
