RCMP officers in Port Coquiltam were forced to put down a bear early Wednesday morning after it was hit by a car.
The animal was hit on the Mary Hill Bypass just after midnight.

When officers arrived, the vehicle that hit the black bear had already left the scene.
The animal was injured and in distress, so officers had to shoot it.
The bypass was closed for about an hour while RCMP cleared the scene.
