The father of a woman found strangled to death earlier this month in Queens New York says he’d be willing to give a member of the killer’s family more than $250,000 in reward money if the person responsible for the crime comes forward and confesses.

“Turn yourself in. I will make sure the reward money goes to the person of your choice. Your sister, your brother, your mother. It’s a life changer,” Phil Vatrano told CBS, during a walk in his daughter’s honour on Tuesday.

Karina Vetrano, 30, went for a late night jog on Aug. 2 in Queens, New York and never returned. Police, along with the girl’s father, later found her body in a marshy area near her home. Investigators said the young woman had been strangled and may have been sexually assaulted.

A GoFundMe fundraising campaign was started Vetrano a week after her death and as of Friday afternoon more than $255,000 had been raised.

“A beautiful, vivacious 30-year-old woman [was] brutally murdered on the night of August 2nd when she went out for her nightly jog only blocks from her home in Howard Beach,” read a statement on the GoFundMe page. “We need your help in bringing this vicious animal to face the most [severe] punishment allowable by law.”

Karina’s parents gave an emotional press conference Thursday calling for the person responsible to turn themselves in.

“Until this moment I haven’t even been able to say these words out loud. That my baby, my little baby was brutalized by this person,” said Karina’s mother Cathy Vetrano.

“By this evil coward. Her last moments were horrible. I know that anybody that’s listening can only imagine. I ask you to imagine if that was their loved one. It could be their sister, someone they once knew. Just imagine that was your loved one and that’s how they ended their life here on earth.”

However, New York Police Commissioner Bill Bratton said Thursday detectives still have no suspects in the killing.

“We have no suspects. We are not close to an arrest. We need the public’s assistance finding a potential suspect that might lead to an arrest. I certainly feel for the family of this young woman,” he  told the New York Daily News.

“We would like to have a resolution for the family, but we cannot provide that at this time. We do not have a suspect.”
