Don’t buy Presto cards for unauthorized dealers. That’s the message being issued by Metrolinx as the transit authority comes to grips with an ongoing Presto card scam.
Officials say the scheme would involves selling cards online for a reduced price and the balance would be withdrawn from the user shortly after.

Metrolinx says riders should only purchase the cards from authorized outlets or on the transit authority’s website.
The Presto card system, which is already in place at GO Transit stations, is equipped at some TTC stations in Toronto with the full rollout expected by 2017.
Meanwhile, Metrolinx says riders should never purchase cards from online auction websites or a used card from another person.
It is also advised to register your card in the case it is lost or stolen. Users should also report the stolen card immediately and if you suspect fraud to call police.
