Traffic may come to a crawl into downtown Vancouver from the North Shore this weekend as part of the Stanley Park Causeway will be closed.
The Vancouver Park Board announced Thursday the stretch of the causeway near Lost Lagoon will be down to one lane beginning at 8 p.m. on Friday and until 5 a.m. Monday morning.
It’s all because a broken water main is leaking 430,000 litres of water a day into Lost Lagoon.
WATCH BELOW: A leak in a water main that supplies half of the water for the city of Vancouver is causing a number of concerns. Ted Chernecki reports.
The broken pipe is one of the main regional supply lines that feeds drinking water to the west side of the city and has been leaking for six weeks. Crews have been working throughout this week to repair the pipe, which was installed in the 1930s.
Now a steel plate must be welded to the water main at the location of the leak.
