KELOWNA – The Kelowna Rockets have traded a defenceman to acquire a forward.

Joe Gatenby  joins the Kamloops Blazers while Jake Kryski is now skating for Kelowna.

Gatenby’s younger brother Danny, a Rockets prospect, was also dealt to Kamloops.

“We have an abundance of defencemen and we had an opportunity to get a high-end 1998-born forward which is a spot we had some room,” said Rockets president/general manager Bruce Hamilton in a news release. “We wish Joe and Danny well in Kamloops and we are looking forward to Jake joining our hockey club immediately.”

The 18-year-old Kryski is entering his third year in the WHL after scoring 12 goals and notching 27 assists in 67 games last season with the Blazers.

He was a first-round pick in the 2013 WHL bantam draft.

Gatenby played 174 games for the Rockets.
