Saskatoon police believe excessive speed is a factor in a crash that brought down power lines.

The crash happened late Wednesday afternoon when the driver of a car travelling south on 2nd Avenue North lost control in the 600-block and crashed into a power pole.

The crash knocked out power in parts of downtown.

The driver, a 31-year-old Saskatoon man, was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Police said charges are pending.
