Escaped Saskatoon Correctional Centre offender found in garbage bin

A 24-year-old man who briefly escaped from the Saskatoon Correctional Centre on Wednesday is back in custody.

Saskatoon police said two men attempted to escape at around 12:45 p.m. CT.

One of them was apprehended by correctional staff before he was able leave the property.

The other man succeeded and headed north to a strip mall in the 3500-block of Millar Avenue. Police said the escapee was found hiding in a garbage bin within minutes and taken back into custody.

Saskatoon Correctional Center officials are investigating the escape.
