Homicide unit investigating fatal hit-and-run in downtown Toronto

A 27-year-old man killed in a hit-and-run in downtown Toronto early Monday evening is now being investigated by the homicide unit.

Toronto police say a blue Dodge Caravan was travelling northbound on George Street near Gerrard Street East at a high rate of speed just before 6 p.m. when it struck a man standing on the sidewalk.

Authorities said the vehicle fled the area and was later found abandoned several blocks away.

The male victim, identified as Steven Doyle, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the vehicle is described as having brown skin with a light complexion, between 5’8″-5’10” tall, slim-to-medium build, with dark-brown shoulder-length hair in a long ponytail.

He was wearing a dark shirt and prescription glasses with rectangular frames.
