Pauline Marois sworn in as a member of the National Assembly

QUEBEC CITY – Parti Quebecois leader Pauline Marois was sworn in as the Member of the National Assembly for Charlevoix–Côte-de-Beaupré during a two-hour ceremony in Quebec City.

Marois won her seat in the riding during Quebec’s election on Sept. 4, when the PQ won 54 seats to form a minority government.

Officially, Marois is not yet the premier of Quebec – this will happen after she is officially invited to form a government.

This invitation is expected to come from Lieutenant Governor Pierre Duchesne on Wednesday, at which time Marois is also expected to unveil her cabinet.

With a minority government facing Liberal and Coalition Avenir Quebec opposition, Marois and the Parti Quebecois face a challenging first term.

The PQ’s win was bittersweet after its election-night victory party was marred by a fatal shooting outside the Metropolis Theatre in Montreal.
