An enormous bicycle made entirely of LEGO bricks has gone on display in Denmark’s Olympic hospitality pavilion in Rio.

Across two days, 30,000 pieces of LEGO were used to construct the bike, which measures 2.20 meters long by 1.65 meters high.

Brazilian LEGO fan Daniel Angelo de Almeida was involved in the build. He admitted it was a challenge to complete the structure in such a short amount of time.

“I’m very happy because we had this short time, and we made it possible to do this huge bike – it’s incredible,” he said.

“I started looking at the faces of the children and the other people that came to see us building this, and everyone is, ‘Whoa, it’s beautiful, it’s big.'”

Leonard, a visitor to the Danish pavilion, was very impressed by the efforts of the construction team.

“A lot of creativity, imagination and a lot of good stuff for the kids and for the family too,” he said.

However, Carl – another visitor – had one criticism.

“I wish it worked, so we could actually bicycle on it.”

The Danish hospitality pavilion on Rio de Janeiro’s Ipanema Beach is designed as an interactive and creative platform for sharing stories about Denmark and promoting all things Danish to an international audience.

LEGO originated in Denmark in 1946 and cycling is one of Denmark’s most popular modes of transport, with 55 percent of all Copenhageners commuting to work by bike.
