The next phase of the Union Station Revitalization Project has prompted GO Transit to shut down platforms 11 to 13 as of Aug. 10.

GO Train commuters are being told to keep a close eye on the new platforms during the weekdays. The changes have been listed on GO Transit’s website.

“It’s more than we’ve ever done at once. It has as big impact on a lot of customers,” said Metrolinx spokesperson Anne Marie Aikins.

“If you haven’t checked ahead, you’re going to come tonight and perhaps your train is going to be on a different platform and you’re going to be scrambling at the last moment and we’re trying to avoid that.”

The revitalization project includes the installation of a new roof, as well as building a new glass atrium which totals 30,000 square metres.

“These will be rolling closures over the next two years, so it’s something a lot of the customers will have to get used to as we do the work to put the roof back on,” said Aikins.

The Bay Concourse is also currently closed as it is undergoing major renovations with the additions of new stairways, elevators and more retail options for commuters.

The revitalization project has a price tag of $640 million with work to be completed by 2017-18.
