Osoyoos jet ski fatality could warrant criminal charges

OSOYOOS, B.C. – A tourist packed stretch of Osoyoos Lake was the site of a fatal jet ski crash Friday afternoon.

RCMP confirm a 24-year-old Port Coquitlam woman died on the water following a collision with another rented jet ski just before 5 p.m.

Several tourists who were on the beach at the time of the death tell Global News it happened in front of the Holiday Inn on the north side of the Osoyoos Lake peninsula.

Police did not release information about the accident until Monday afternoon.

Both jet ski operators were knocked into the water, according to RCMP.

A 24-year-old New Westminster man was located conscious while the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

RCMP continue to investigate to determine if any criminal charges are warranted.

Tourists who were on the beach during the accident say the pair were seen playing a ‘game of chicken’ on the jet skis prior to the crash.
