Paddlers relay in Kelowna for brain injury prevention

More than 100 paddle boarders with varying levels of experience were out on the water for the second Paddle for Prevention fundraising event on Sunday. Jim Douglas

The second Paddle for Prevention event kicked off in Kelowna’s Rotary Park on Sunday morning.

The paddle board relay challenge incorporates teams of four who compete in different races to see who comes out on top.

The event raises money for BrainTrust Canada, an Okanagan-based charity.

Organizers said this year, 30 teams signed up for the race.

“Almost anyone knows someone that’s been affected by brain injury, whether it’s through a stroke or sports concussion or motor vehicle accident so… all funds raised here go to brain injury prevention and education, as well as support for individuals with brain injury,” said organizer Magda Kapp.

She said all of the money raised at the event stays in the Okanagan.
