RCMP pull man from burning vehicle after he fled domestic assault complaint

RCMP were called to a complaint of domestic assault in Penhold, Alta., at around 7 p.m. Friday night.
When mounties arrived at the scene, RCMP said a man was brandishing a knife and then fled in a vehicle.

RCMP followed the man in their vehicle, and shortly after, the man made a sharp turn off the highway and crashed into the side of a CP Rail train.

A small fire started from the crash and RCMP members managed to pull the man to safety.

Innisfail Fire Department extinguished the blaze quickly and traffic on Highway 2A was briefly diverted as a precaution.

The 35-year-old man from Bowden, Alta., suffered non-life threatening injuries and was taken to hospital.

He has since been arrested and charges are pending.

RCMP continue to investigate this incident with help from CP Rail police.
