Independent MNA Sylvie Roy has passed away at the age of 51.
Roy died Sunday at the Enfant-Jésus Hospital in Quebec City, where she had been admitted in July after suffering from an unknown illness.
“Her health continued to deteriorate,” her Facebook page said.
Roy passed away at 3 p.m., surrounded by those close to her.

Born in La Tuque, Roy was a lawyer by trade who was very active in municipal affairs.
In 2012, she was elected as MNA in Arthabaska; she was a member of the ADQ before switching to the Coalition Avenir Quebec (CAQ).
She eventually left the party last year to sit as an independent.
“The exact cause of her death is not known yet,” the message states.
Roy leaves behind two children, Michel and Estelle; as well as her mother, Monique Jacob; sister, Nathalie; brother-in-law, Jean Morissette; Roy’s ex husband Réal Croteau, as well as those she worked with closely as an MNA.
Her funeral will take place on Aug. 8 at 4 p.m. at the Assumption Cathedral in Trois-Rivières.
People looking to pay their respects can do so on Aug. 7 (1 p.m.-5 p.m., 7 p.m.-9 p.m.) and Aug. 8 (starting at 1 p.m.) at the Rousseau Funeral Centre.
