WATCH ABOVE: Despite a massive overhaul of Broadway Avenue, the Potash Corp. fringe theatre and street festival is kicking off. For ten days, the street will be closed to traffic and open to performers and theatre lovers. Ryan Kessler reports – Jul 29, 2016

The PotashCorp Fringe Theatre and Street Festival will return to Saskatoon’s Nutana neighbourhood on Thursday evening, bringing live performances, food, music and vendors to the city.

The Fringe runs from July 28 to Aug. 6, and includes plays, more than 100 small vendors, and 30 food vendors.

Tickets to plays are $15 per person. A list of all the plays and the option to purchase online are on the festival’s website. Tickets also available at the venue on the day of the show within the hour leading up to the play.

The following venues are hosting performances over the course of the festival:

  • Broadway Theatre
  • Grace-Westminster United Church
  • The Kinsmen Hall/Cosmo Senior Citizens Centre
  • The Refinery
  • Victoria School Gymnasium
  • The Victoria School Upstairs Auditorium

Three KidsFringe Theatre shows are scheduled:

  • Hubby in Distress takes a new perspective on the classic damsel in distress narrative.
  • Rat Tales is a rodent version of Hansel and Gretel, Snow White, the Pied Piper and other stories.
  • The Fabulist uses animal masks, various voices and live shadow puppetry.

Parking without a city-issued pass is not allowed from 8th Street to 14th Street and from Lansdowne Avenue to Victoria Avenue.

Saskatoon Transit encourages festival-goers to take one of seven direct routes:

  • Route 1 Exhibition: Downtown to Broadway Avenue
  • Route 1 City Centre: Sunnyside to Broadway Avenue
  • Route 6 Broadway: City Centre to Broadway Avenue
  • Route 6 City Centre: Market Mall to Broadway Avenue
  • Route 8 City Centre: Centre Mall to Broadway Avenue and 8th Street
  • Route 8 Centre Mall: City Centre to Broadway Avenue and 8th Street
  • Route 13 (only during peak periods)

Around 55,000 people attend the fringe festival every year.
