A leopard was beaten to death in northern India after the animal wandered into a village and mauled seven people.

The leopard entered the village in Gorakhpur on Monday, leaving three people injured, including a three-year-old boy, before going into hiding.
On Tuesday the leopard reappeared, running from house to house tackling and mauling villagers in its path.

Residents whistled and yelled at the animal, while others chased it with sticks.
Forest officials responded to the small community, but the feline had already been killed by the time they arrived.
Authorities blame population growth and habitat depletion of wild animals as reasons for animals entering villages.
