Starting today, all open transit fare gates at SkyTrain stations will be closed.
TransLink shut the fare gates in April, but after numerous complaints, decided to keep one gate open at stations where an attendant was not present.
The complaints came after some passengers with disabilities had trouble tapping in and out with their Compass Cards.
But the open gates were taken advantage of by passengers trying to ride for free.
Now, anyone needing assistance to get through the gates will have to call ahead and an attendant will meet them at the station.
Last week, TransLink said its Compass Card system that has met with a lot of glitches and challenges since launch has now reached an active circulation of one million.
The company says reaching the one million mark means more than one in three people in TransLink’s service area are using the card.
