WINNIPEG —  An abandoned kitten that lost its leg due to amputation, now has renewed hope for a new home.

Tuxedo Animal Hospital said a “good Samaritan” brought in a 10-week-old kitten named “Trip” several days ago. The kitten had been found near train tracks and had severe injuries to its left hind leg and part of its tail.

“We don’t know if the cat had been hit by a train or if she’d suffered these injuries otherwise,” said Jonas Watson, veterinarian at Tuxedo Animal Hospital.

Watson called Trip’s injuries “devastating” and that they would not be able to save her hind leg. Watson said they decided to amputate her hind leg to improve her quality of life.

Since the surgery 10 days ago, Watson said the kitten is recovering well and is not expected to have any issues as she grows older.

“She’s already getting around extremely well. And because she’ll be adapting from such a young age, she’s likely to not even miss the missing limb.”
