KELOWNA – A fire forced the evacuation of a downtown Kelowna business Friday.

The call came in at 11:40 a.m. from the Sunplex indoor sports facility on Ellis Street.

About a dozen people had to leave the pub/restaurant located in the facility.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

The fire broke out in a walkway between the Sunplex and a neighbouring business where vagrants sometimes gather.

A Sunplex spokesperson says a man, with his hat pulled low and a bandana over his face, was seen entering the walkway and then running away.

The blaze was extinguished within minutes of the arrival of fire crews with minimal damage.

Arson is suspected and RCMP are investigating.
