How to fix those cracking garage floors

 Cracking garage floors are causing problems for homeowners around the city, and it turns out that you need to fix those cracks as soon as you notice them.

Experts say the best way to do that is to either fill the cracks or cover the garage floor with a new waterproof surface.

They recommend filling cracks as soon as possible to prevent moisture from getting in and expanding.

Using the wrong product could do more harm than good; they say homeowners shouldn’t use caulking, and instead get an epoxy paste designed for repairing cracked foundations.

“The two main culprits for excessive cracking in concrete would be insufficient base prep as well as improper placement of rebar within the concrete slab,” explained Kyle Caravan from Duratech Coatings. “Shallow thickness of concrete [can also] cause excessive cracking.”

New home warranty programs cover cracks more than three millimeters wide. There is also protection if a floor settles or heaves too much, or isn’t sloped enough for water drainage.
