TORONTO – First baseman Justin Smoak agreed to a two-year contract extension with the Toronto Blue Jays on Saturday afternoon with a club option for the 2019 season.
The contract will pay the 29-year-old Smoak US$4.125 million per season in the first two years of the deal with a $6 million option in 2019 with a $250,000 buyout.

Smoak is batting .234 with a nine home runs and 23 runs batted in this season with a .333 on-base percentage and a .402 slugging percentage.
In seven major league seasons the six-foot-four, 220-pound first baseman has appeared in 780 games posting a .225 batting average with 101 home runs, 316 RBIs and a .310 on-base percentage.
