WINNIPEG — Winnipeg Police have arrested a man in connection with the death of Cyril Weenusk.
Geordie Douglas Wood, 22, of St. Theresa Point, Manitoba has been charged with second-degree murder, after an altercation left Weenusk dead in the early morning hours of July 5.
Police had been searching for the suspect, after his name and description was released on Wednesday. Wood was arrested at the Winnipeg Remand Centre, where he had been taken in previously on unrelated charges.

Weenusk, 26, is believed to have been beaten by a group of people in the heart of the city’s downtown on Portage Avenue on July 5. Police arrived to the scene shortly before 4 a.m. and took Weenusk to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The homicide and ensuing investigation involved a large area of downtown, as parts of Donald St. and Portage Ave. were cordoned off for more than eight hours, as officers collected evidence at the crime scene.
