Liberal Pierre Paradis wins Brome-Missisquoi in tenth consecutive election

Liberal Pierre Paradis has held onto his seat of Brome-Missisquoi for the tenth time in a row.

Paradis defeated CAQ candidate Benoit Legault and Parti Quebecois candidate Richard Leclerc in a close race.

He has held the riding since 1980. It was considered to be a bellwether for Liberal success in the province, but with a PQ government predicted, Paradis will once again be in the opposition.

Paradis has held a number of cabinet posts in his long political career, including Minister of the Environment, Minister of Labour, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Government House Leader. Most recently, he has chaired the Committee on Agriculture, Fisheries, Energy and Natural Resources.

Richard Leclerc has tried twice before to win the seat, in 2007 and 2008.
