KELOWNA – A Kelowna heritage site has received provincial government funding to promote BC’s Francophone heritage.

The Father Pandosy Mission Society used the money for translating promotional material and installing bilingual signs at its Benvoulin Road heritage site.

“The primary purpose of the bilingual signage is to increase the French presence on the Father Pandosy Mission Site. We expect this enhancement to increase the number of visitors, from all cultures, and provide them the opportunity to appreciate the historical impact of Father Pandosy and the French community in the development of the original settlement,” states a government news release.

The Kelowna society was granted $5000 for the signs and promotional materials.

The mission was established in 1859 and was one of the first non-native settlements in the BC interior.
