OLIVER – People wanting a career as a prison guard in the Okanagan should take note of two upcoming information sessions.
There are still 70 correctional officers to be hired for the 378 cell Okanagan Correctional Centre in Oliver.
Those interested in the jobs are invited to the sessions.

* In Kelowna: July 9, 2016, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Kelowna Justice Institute, 825 Walrod Street.
* In Penticton: July 17, 2016, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Penticton Days Inn, 152 Riverside Drive.
“To date, more than 1,000 prospective staff have taken part in information sessions throughout the region, learning about BC Corrections, the inmate population and the responsibilities of a correctional officer,” states a news release from the Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General.
Applicants must successfully complete a physical ability test.
The jail will employ 240 correctional staff and 60 support workers.
The first inmates arrive in 2017.
