Calgary city council has put off making a decision on the controversial redevelopment application for the former Highland Park golf course in the northwest.
It took three votes and much debate, but eventually council decided Tuesday to wait until January 2017 before it would make a decision on the application.

The proposal is for 2,000 residential units to be built on the land between Centre Street North, McKnight Boulevard, 40 Avenue and 4 Street N.W.

Councillors decided that any decision would be premature until a study is done to measure the impact of the Green Line LRT being built in that area.
More than 30 residents were in council chambers Tuesday to oppose the proposal.
