Calgary mothers stand united in wake of stabbing death

Two families, destroyed by a senseless killing, walked hand-in-hand to the suspect’s first court appearance on Tuesday.

18-year-old Joshua Hogarth was stabbed to death last week in the community of Acadia. He was found lying in the yard, near his mother’s townhouse-just days before he was set to return back to B.C. for school.

His friend, 20-year-old Byron Blanchard is accused in the death.

On Tuesday morning, Hogarth’s mother Debbie walked in to the courthouse with both her sister and the suspect’s mother.

Blanchard does not have a lawyer yet. His next court appearance has been set for September 7.
