If you get a call from someone claiming to be from the Saskatoon Police Service and urging you to pay your back taxes with iTunes gift cards – it’s a scam.
Police officials say they have received reports of people receiving calls from a person claiming to be from the Canada Revenue Agency.

They then demand payment of back taxes using iTunes gift cards.
When payment is refused, the person receives a call back from what appears to be a Saskatoon police phone number and an “officer” urging them to make the iTune payment.
What is happening is that the fraudsters are spoofing the police phone number.

They are using software to mask the number they are calling from and displaying the general Saskatoon police phone number instead.
Police officials say they do not contact anyone regarding payment of taxes nor does the Canada Revenue agency communicate this way.

Anyone who received such a call should hang up immediately and contact Saskatoon police at 306-975-8300.
