A new mom has received an apology after being told not to breastfeed inside a Surrey shopping mall.
Amanda Carvalho said she was breastfeeding her two-month-old at Guildford Town Centre when a security guard told her mall policy dictated she had to breastfeed in the mall’s parenting room.
She challenged him on that and then went to the on-shift supervisor.

“He apologized,” Carvalho said. “I asked him if what the security guard said was true — if there was a mall policy against breastfeeding — and he was unsure. He said that he would have to check.
“I told him, mall policy or not, I have a human right to breastfeed wherever I please.”
Guildford Town Centre general manager Peggy Howard said both the security guard and the customer service representative are fairly new to the mall and that may have led to the misunderstanding.
“We would like to apologize to Amanda because I think there must have been a misunderstanding,” Howard said.
“I just want people to be educated,” Carvalho added. “It’s 2016. We’re not in 1980. It’s not fair to us. It’s absolutely ridiculous. It needs to stop.”
