Calgary police confirmed Tuesday that a violent home invasion in the community of Beddington appears to be “random” in nature.
Officers were called to the 0-100 block of Beddington Drive N.E. at around 11:30 p.m. on Sunday
When they arrived, investigators found two people who both appeared to be suffering from stab wounds. EMS transported the victims, a man in his 60s and a woman in her 30s, to the Foothills Medical Centre in serious, potentially life-threatening condition.
Police said the suspect left the scene before they arrived, but was quickly located in a nearby field, suffering from unspecified injuries. He was rushed to hospital where he later died.
Investigators believe the man’s injuries were self-inflicted and that he “took his own life.”

On Tuesday, police announced they had identified the suspect, but wouldn’t be releasing his name due to his manner of death and because charges cannot be laid against him.
Investigators said they “do not know the motive for the home invasion.”
