One person was killed and two others were injured in a violent incident in the community of Beddington on Sunday.

Officers were called to the 0-100 block of Beddington Drive N.E. at around 11:30 p.m. for reports of an armed home invasion.

When they arrived, investigators found two people who both appeared to be suffering from stab wounds. EMS transported the victims, a man in his 60s and a woman in her 30s, to the Foothills Medical Centre in serious, potentially life-threatening condition.

Police said a man fled the scene before they arrived, but was later located in a nearby field. According to EMS, the suspect was rushed to the Foothills Medical Centre in critical, life-threatening condition where he later died.

Investigators indicated in a Monday news release that it’s believed the man’s injuries were self-inflicted and that he “took his own life.”

Neighbour Scott Slade said he and his wife were walking their dog when police arrived in the area.

“Couple doors down I noticed ambulances – more than one ambulance pulled up,” Slade said. “Next thing I noticed is police cars taking off to the park behind us, just jumping into the field, and the HAWCS helicopter shining a light down on the field.”

Another neighbour, who wished to remain anonymous, told Global News a mother and father lived in the home with their adult daughter, who had just recently moved back in.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call police at 403-266-1234 or contact Crime Stoppers.
