Emergency crews were called to a southeast Calgary pond on Tuesday after a white SUV plunged into the water.
Police arrived at Inverness Pond along Promenade Way S.E. in McKenzie Towne at around 7:30 a.m.
Witnesses reportedly saw the male driver swim to shore and run from the scene on foot.
The Calgary Fire Department’s Aquatic Rescue Team was called in to search the submerged vehicle for any possible occupants. However, nobody was found inside.
Firefighters are using air bags to raise the vehicle so it can be pulled from the pond.
In addition, crews have placed a boom in the water to stop fluids leaking from the vehicle from dispersing throughout the pond.
The Calgary Fire Department’s hazardous materials team will be assisting with cleanup.
