Lightning sparks 2 wildfires near Whistler

Crews are battling two lightning-caused fires near Whistler.

Two wildfires, sparked by a storm near Whistler, are now under control.

Both fires are burning on the back side of Whistler Mountain — one near the mountain’s peak and the other between Whistler Mountain and Cheakamus Lake Road.

Helicopters doused the area throughout the evening.

Officials say the fires were started during a thunder and lightning storm, which also brought heavy hail to the area.
