Weekend Pride parades in London and New York City have allowed some to honour those who were killed in the recent shootings Orlando, Fl., but the events have also provided an opportunity for a few first responders to celebrate their love.

At the New York City Pride Parade Sunday, EMT Julianna Arroyo dropped down to one knee in the midst of the celebration and proposed to her girlfriend.

“This parade is monumental for us because of the Orlando shooting. It hit really close to home ,” Oroyo was quoted as saying on the New York City Fire Department’s Facebook page. “We wanted to walk in the parade in honor of the 49 victims. At the same time, I wanted to give Erika something positive to remember from the parade.”
