Winnipeg man assaulted prior to fatal fire

WINNIPEG — A Winnipeg man who died in a north end house fire was assaulted prior to the blaze being lit, Winnipeg police confirmed Friday. Now officers are turning to the public for help in solving the death of 50-year-old David Sanderson. Police aren’t saying at this point whether a weapon was used in the assault.

Emergency crews rushed to the home in the 300 block of Aberdeen Avenue early Wednesday morning. Sanderson was taken out of the house and rushed to hospital but died.

Police believe Sanderson was in the area of Main Street between Dufferin Avenue and Selkirk Avenue on the evening of June 21.
