The Nova Scotia Public Prosecution Service says the case was set over on Thursday in Halifax provincial court, returning on July 5 when lawyers are expected to set dates for a preliminary hearing.
Her body was found at a Halifax-area home on March 26 and police said the pair were in a “domestic relationship” at the time.
Butcher, 33, was rushed to hospital for treatment of injuries described as significant, but not life-threatening.
Police believe Butcher and Johnston were the only two people in the home at the time of the homicide.
Johnston moved to Halifax from Montreal and opened a Bikram yoga studio, gaining a reputation as a kind and determined businesswoman.
