Fire crews were called to the scene of a house fire in Beaumont Wednesday afternoon.

Flames and heavy smoke could be seen coming through the roof of a home in the area of 50 Street and 50 Avenue just before 5 p.m.

Beaumont Fire Chief Bob Gates said it appeared as though the fire started on the outside before moving up the side of the house into the eavestrough and then the attic. He said that made the blaze a tough one for firefighters to battle.

“By the time we were notified and responded, it had a good seat in the attic,” Gates said. “We had teams inside doing an aggressive interior attack until the roof started to come in at which time we pulled interior teams out, did an exterior attack using the aerial component and once we felt it was safe, we sent teams back inside.”

Crews could be seen battling the blaze from the ground and on a ladder truck.

Fire officials said six minors were home at the time the blaze broke out but all got out safely and no injuries were reported.

Gates said he did not have a cost estimate for the damage but referred to it as “significant.”

Officials said there was no damage to any surrounding buildings.

Investigators are expected to return to the scene Thursday as they work to determine a cause.
